Well, before narrating
the entire drama, let me make it clear for you guys. My Instagram account is NOT
HACKED, technically. I posted those stories and the tweet, out of sarcasm.
Basically, day before
yesterday, i.e., on the evening of 23rd May, I was going through my Instagram
feed, and there I found many of my friends posting stories, where their account
name is changed to some food items. Upon inquiry, I realized that it was a prank
going on, where the victim is asked to change his account name to the name his
favorite food item, and he needs to do it twice. Like, at first, he needs to
write the name of the food item in capital letters, and then in small, and send
screenshots of both to the person who had sent the prank. So basically, like
every ordinary user, I did the same, but later on when I tried changing my
account name back to my original name, it did not work, because as per the
latest policies of Instagram, if an user changes his name twice in a single
day, he is restricted from changing it further, for 14 days. I left no stone
unturned, like I tried sending a bug report to Instagram, changing my date and
time, in my phone’s settings, but nothing worked. Even all the videos on
YouTube, claiming that I’ll be able to change my name before 14 days, were
fake.
At this point, I was
rather worried and depressed, which made me temporarily deactivate my account
for a day. Most of you'll probably know that I post literary content a lot in
my profile, and I am a member of several writing pages and writing communities,
where I am identified by my account name, and not primarily the username. So, I
guess, due to this, I won't be able to upload my writeups and such content for
14 days, because my account can be considered as a fake account, due to the
changed name. Due to that reason, I am also restricted from changing my
username, as per my desire.
There was another reason
behind the temporary deactivation of my account, and it was the fact that I was
not much satisfied with my life in social media. Also, I had been anxious,
because I had been spending a lot of time unproductively, in this platform,
which impacted my productivity by a huge margin, and made me a great
procrastinator, so I thought of taking a break. I had tried several methods
earlier, like setting limits of my usage each day, logging off the accounts,
when I am not using them, but none of them actually worked out.
At that moment, I did not have the polite
sentences, to explain my problem, so it made me even more depressed within.
Also, while I’m speaking about depression, let me tell you’ll that during this
lockdown period, I’ve developed a new peccadillo of getting depressed very easily,
without any logical reason, so that was also one of the reasons of the
temporary deactivation of my account. Also, that day, after a long time, I
finally had a haircut, and I was kinda unsatisfied with the haircut, which
added further to my depression. I felt so because due to the bad haircut, I
could not shoot my guitar cover videos.
Well,
to sum things up, I would
like to say that my account isn’t an ordinary personal account, rather it is a
creator’s account. And I use this platform, rather in a professional and formal way, rather than like an ordinary social media platform. So I would request my friends not to prank me with stuffs,
which messes with my account. Previously, I used to own multiple accounts, but
after realizing that it isn’t a piece of cake to manage multiple accounts, I
had to switch to a single account with diverse content, instead. Also, I would
like to conclude by saying that I am not beckoning anyone personally, rather I
am trying to clarify the myth about my Instagram account hack update.
